Mom's Kitchen
Sunday, October 01, 2006

Kitchen is where most moms do their thing in cooking and sometimes we have to admit that designs of the kitchen can somehow affect our enthusiasm in cooking. Here are the basic tips on how to create a convenient kitchen and functional to our own needs.

1. The elements of Water and Fire- kitchen has two basic elements that is fire for cooking and water for washing. Fire best featured as red and orange while blue for water. How then are you going to combine such colors in a way not disturbing yet giving an edge to your own kitchen. Here are some tips you can use.
a. Place one color more dominating than the other, which color is up to your kind of personality.
b. Second, consider the texture of the materials you want to use. If you are using a shiny, glossy type of tiles, consider blue as the choice of color and the rough one to be the red color. However, if you are going for an extreme color you may use the colors vise versa.

2. Prefer to use long-lasting, low-maintenance and sanitary materials- the key component of kitchen is to be primarily clean. Kitchen must keep clean as possible to prevent bacteria and other harsh elements from coming to your food. Sticky food create stains to your tiles will be difficult to come out and inviting to insects. Be sure that the materials used are non-stick tiles. It must also withstand alternate temperature coming from heat and water. Clean and clear tiles advised.

3. Applying your kind of lifestyle to the kitchen design- every household has different lifestyles. Those who are into cooking most likely has large kitchen sinks and cooking area. While others has bars adjacent to the whole kitchen. Others use kitchen as a kind of presentation purposes, they make it as a feature in their house. This is why; some kitchens are larger than others, vibrant, others more relaxing are and for some are too simple. These depend on how they use their kitchen and it defines the personality of the user.

4. Good air ventilation-you need some good breathing in this area of the house, therefore air circulation recommended. Different types of odors and levels of temperatures can affect the person using the area or kitchen.

5. Practical and suitable storage- kitchen has pantries for food, cabinets for kitchenware and linen storages. Having all kinds of storages sometimes consume all spaces in the kitchen. Sort out every piece of where it belong and place it on each place to prevent from mixing. Make the cabinet both stylish and functional by creating one color for cabinets and strategically arrange it. Avoid placing cabinets on areas where there is much activity like in a cooking or frying area and the washing area.

6. Choose designs that are timeless- there are vintage designs most commonly used in the kitchen and the other one is the modern design. Eliminate too much color in terms of ornaments in the kitchen as they filled with dusts if not maintained.

7. Following the standards in placing kitchen sinks and cooking area- there is a standard in presenting your cooking and washing area. They formed in a triangular shape. The other end of the triangular shape must point to the kitchen sink, the other to the cooking and the opposite is the refrigerator. Cooking and washing area should not be directly opposite or just in front of each other.

8. Choose the quality of your kitchen appliances- these are the essentials inside the kitchen. Technology can now be used as a design to your even dull kitchen. Aside from the convenience it gives, you must also make sure that it has long-term warranty to avoid wasting dollars.

9. Waste disposal- most of the kitchen sinks does not grind the leftovers and some garbage cans have no segregation system. Cleanliness is the most important in kitchen, since we prepare food in it; we should also keep it clean from any insects. Proper management of waste not only keeps the kitchen clean but also reduces odor.

10. Acoustics and lighting- in a kitchen it is important to use bright light not dim light. It is where we prepare using sharp utensils; we then make sure that we see properly what we are doing. The place must be away from too noise making it a calm place to prepare food.

What then is important to having kitchen is the cleanliness and the over all vibrancy of the room. It is a way of making sure that what we serve is clean and tasteful.
