The Tassimo Hot Beverage System
Sunday, February 12, 2006

By Christina VanGinkel

The Tassimo Hot Beverage System is an ingenious way to help you enjoy your next cup of tea, cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate, or coffee. With their pre-made discs, filled with the exact amount of these ingredients to brew you the perfect cup of your choice of hot beverages, the Tassimo Hot Beverage System will have it ready in sixty seconds.

The first time I saw one of these machines, I thought, oh, another hot water machine. Rather the way hot water is delivered in some parts of the world, where a typical hot water tank is not the standard, but where the water is heated on as needed basis. It does have a large, 68 oz removable water tank, and the machine itself is easy to clean, with the moveable parts dishwasher safe. What is so unique about this system is that it works with what are referred to as a T-DISK. Each T-DISK is filled with the beverage of your choice and marked with a unique barcode. The machine reads the barcode, and then knows exactly how to brew that cup of beverage. The barcode tells the machine the size of the drink, the correct temperature to brew it at, and the length of time to brew. All you have to do is insert the T-DISK, place your cup in the adjustable cup stand, and press the button.

One more major improvement the Tassimo Hot Beverage System has over other instant hot water systems though is their water filtering capabilities. The filter works in three ways, in conjunction with fresh drinking water. My favorite is the first, which I have always had a problem with when using a standard type coffee maker and that is the filter is designed to strip out the build up of impurities. How many times have you had a new coffee maker, and the first pot or two tastes fantastic? Then, after a few more pots of water have been run through, you start to notice a different taste, and when you look in the well where the machine holds the water before it is pumped through, you realize there is already lime build up and who knows what else causing a white film and scaly looking corrosion. This feature of the Tassimo filter helps to reduce or even eliminate that problem. The Tassimo filter system goes on and works to decrease the build up and concentrations of other substances that may work to decrease the speed of the water through the machine, making a typical pot of water take forever to run through the machine. So advanced is the filter, it even works to eliminate micro particles that may not be highly visible to the naked eye, but are still apt to cause a disintegration in the flavor of your hot beverages.

The brochure with the Tassimo Hot Beverage System states to use fresh drinking water with the system, and to replace the filter at least every three months. I would also recommend that if at any time you notice a lessening in flavor or slow down in the water discharge, that you go ahead and replace the filter early, especially if you live in an area where the water that comes out of the tap is high in anything that would contribute to the early demise of the filter, such as large amounts of lime. If this is a problem, you could also use bottled water in the system to increase the life of the filter to the recommended three months.

If this has sparked your interest in the Tassimo Hot Beverage System, look at the exciting flavors and blends available that work with the system, including regular coffees, decaffeinated, teas, hot chocolates, even espressos and cappuccinos. There are several well-known and highly valued brands, including Gevalia, Twinings, Suchard, and Maxwell House, plus more, including:
