The Popcorn Factory and the Perfect Gift
Saturday, February 04, 2006

By Christina VanGinkel

When I think of a gift basket of food, I often think of fruits, sweets, and cheese with sausages. These all make great gift baskets to give, but what if I wanted, or needed to send one to a teen or even a young child. A basket of sweets might fit, but their parents might not be so appreciative! I am a big fan of gift baskets in general, simply because they are fun to receive, and if you can find the perfect one, they are just as much fun to give. So, when I needed to send a belated get well to a teenager recently who was recovering from a broken ankle, I decided, as I am so apt to do, to send a gift basket. He had been dealing with the ankle for some time, and as his mother said, he sure could use a bit of a lift, just something to brighten his day. What kind of gift could accomplish that though was where I was at a loss, which is until I remembered The Popcorn Factory!

They have some of the most fun baskets I have ever come across! My biggest decision was going to be which one to send. With Valentine's Day so close at hand, they had quite a collection of baskets geared for that holiday. Many of those would also be good choices though, so that made my choice that much more difficult. The first basket that caught my eye was not actually a basket, but a tin made for Valentine's Day. Their Painted Hearts Deluxe Snack Tin, a three and a half gallon tin filled with tortilla chips, salsa, chipotle season pretzel nuggets, Jalapeno popcorn, cheddar cheese corn, chocolate drizzled caramel corn, honey roasted peanuts, and for that sweet tooth every teen seems to have, chocolate chip cookies, butter cookies, foil wrapped chocolate hearts, and Jelly Belly conversation jelly beans. This has such an amazing assortment of treats, snacks, and popcorn, I made a mental note that this tin would be an ideal choice for any valentine that I might decide to send something special too (My own teen for example!) Priced at $39.99, some might consider it a bit on the expensive side, but they also offered one at half that price, a smaller half gallon pail.

Their Painted Hearts Treat Pail, the half-gallon pail, is filled with bags of popcorn, including aged cheddar cheese, chocolate drizzled caramel corn. It also has a selection of Valentine sweets, including two frosted heart shaped butter cookies, milk chocolate hearts, chocolate covered marshmallow hearts, and a selection of Jelly Belly conversation jellybeans. While not as large as their Painted Hearts Deluxe Snack Tin, it would still bring a big smile to whoever was lucky enough to get it!
I decided to browse a bit more, deciding these were good gifts, but not really something that would send the thought to Get Well. That was when I noticed that they actually have a large selection of suggestions specifically for that purpose. They also have Thank You, Congratulations, Thinking of You, and personalized gifts, Birthdays, New Baby, ones just for kids, other holiday themed baskets, and tins, even ones designed for corporate giving. Then I noticed that they even had NFL themed tins for that football fanatic that you have been searching for the perfect gift for forever! It was then that I realized that I had found the gift that was meant for me to give.

A huge Dallas Cowboy fan, this particular teen had broken his ankle at the end of his high school football season in November. Now several months later, he is starting to recall what he likes about the sport that landed him in such a predicament in the first place. The Popcorn Factory had the perfect gift for me to send, a Dallas Cowboy themed tin filled with their delicious Butter, traditional Cheddar, and their own 'secret recipe' Caramel corn. After it was emptied, I was also sure he would find a use for the full color tin somewhere in his room. I can tell you that he loved his gift, and actually called to thank me. If a gift can get a teenager to dial a phone to call an adult, you know it was a winner!
