Food Care Packages for College Students
Sunday, December 11, 2005

Think back to the time that you first went off to college.  As an 18-year-old, you probably couldn't wait to get away from home and live on your own for a while.  At least, that's what you told everyone.  And that sentiment really was true, for the most part.  But there were always times that you felt a bit homesick and wished that you could sit down, surrounded by your family, to one of your mom's home-cooked meals.  This feeling of homesickness was particularly strong near the holidays, especially if you went to school far away from home and couldn't afford to fly or drive back – instead, you had to spend the breaks on campus with a few other students in the same situation.

The one thing that could really pick your spirits up back then was getting a care package from home.  Well, that kind of special delivery still works on college students of today's generation.  So if you know someone who is attending school out of town, be it your son, daughter, niece, nephew, or the child of a friend, take some time to remember that person this holiday season by sending a special care package full of delicious home-baked goodies.

Putting together your own care package doesn't have to take a lot of time.  You can use shortcuts whenever possible in order to speed up the process a bit.  For example, using instant or frozen cookie dough will yield cookies with that homemade taste without requiring you to start from scratch.  There are also instant brownie and cupcake mixes available at the store, so you might want to think about including those kinds of treats as well.

Final exams are taking place at schools all over the country at this time of year, which means your favorite college student will need to pull an "all-nighter" or two.  Therefore, including a gift of gourmet coffee in the care package would not only be welcome, but also very useful.

If you are so busy this holiday season that you simply don't have time to make your own care package, then you should consider purchasing one from a company that specializes in gift baskets.  For example, right here at iFoodGifts.com, you can find a link to GiftBaskets.com, a leading online retailer of food gift baskets.  They have numerous themed gift baskets to choose from, and each basket is brimming over with goodies and other gifts such as stuffed teddy bears, balloons, coffee mugs, and more.  GiftBasket.com offers secure ordering and lightning-fast delivery, so you can shop there with no worries at all.  As you're browsing through their great collection of gift baskets, you'll see that they offer something for almost every celebratory occasion that you can imagine.  You might even want to pick something up for yourself as a special treat!

This year, don't forget about those college students out there who might not be able to make it home for the holidays.  Send out a special food care package today!
