You Won't Go Hungry in Honolulu
Sunday, September 18, 2005

If you will be spending some time vacationing in Hawaii, it will save you a great deal of time if you have researched the restaurants and know where you want to get some of your meals. The bad part is that there are so many excellent restaurants from which to choose, you will have a terrible time trying to decide which ones to visit!

Before you start planning the individual restaurants to try, decide where you will be having your luau. I didn't even say "if you will be having" because finding a luau is definitely a must when spending time on any of the islands.

If you will be in the Honolulu area, you will be amazed at the dining choices. For a choice of the more elaborate type, you may enjoy a cruise complete with meal such as the Navatek Dinner Cruise. If seeing the sunset over Waikiki sounds interesting, this is a good choice. Depending on which cruise option you actually decide on, the dinner cruise will cost between $60 and $170 per adult (as of September 2005).

As you cruise past the breathtaking Diamond Head, your evening will include entertainment as well as a great dinner menu. Various entrees are offered and include fish, chicken, side dishes, etc. and if you choose the Royal Sunset cruise you will be offered things like lobster and steak. As a side note, if your budget can possibly handle the highest priced cruise, you will be given such perks as limo service from the hotel and a private table.

The House Without a Key restaurant serves hula dances and Hawaiian music along with the food. This is a good choice for breakfast if you want a buffet, but sunset dinners are also popular. You can start with a Pupu platter or Crab Crostini and perhaps complement it with an entree of Seafood Stew or New York Steak with Cilantro Pesto. Save room for Macadamia Nut Pie or Chocolate Mousse Cake made with Toblerone chocolate.

Perhaps you will prefer a less exquisite meal some of the time. There are just as many of these kinds of restaurants as there are upscale establishments. Getting its name from offering more than 30 flavors of cheesecake, the Cheesecake Factory also serves up good old fashioned foods such as pizza, seafood, meats, pasta, chicken, and burgers.

Also on the menu at the Cheesecake Factory are some comfort foods we all remember from the past such as meatloaf, shepherds pie and chops. The menu is quite large and the portions are huge. All choices are available as takeout if your tired bones simply want to spend the evening at the hotel.

The Cheeseburger Restaurant, if you stop by for breakfast, will remind you that you're in Hawaii with the menu choices. One example is an incredible 3 Egg Omelet that uses Portuguese sausage and pineapple in addition to cheese. There are certainly items that you won't find at most restaurants on the mainland. Case in point, imagine a cheeseburger topped with bacon and egg! Or Macadamia Pancakes.

The Cheeseburger Restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. Try a slice of grilled pineapple on your cheeseburger or a special hot dog, chicken sandwich, or seafood entree. Save room for the decadent Maui Mud Puddle Pie!
